Norway Maple Eco Printed Hand Bound Journal
A Norway Maple leaf was used to eco print* the repurposed silk fabric for the cover of this hand bound journal. This particular type of maple leaf is reddish purple from Spring through Autumn. A Spring storm left my neighbor's lawn strewn with these beautiful leaves providing me with many leaves for printing. The early leaves are rich with pigment as can be seen with this print which has a watercolor effect from the juiciness of the pigment.
Journal is 4" x 5" and is filled with 100 pages of Canson sketch paper. The Coptic binding allows the book to lay flat when in use.
*Eco printing is a process by which leaves and other botanicals are tightly bound within a natural fiber textile or paper and heated over simmering water. The combination of tight contact with the fabric, heat, steam and a little magic releases the pigments in the leaf onto the cloth/paper. One part science many parts magic no two prints are ever alike.
